Wichita State University (WSU) is a public research university in Wichita, Kansas. It is the largest university in the state of Kansas and a member of the Kansas Board of Regents. Wichita State University offers more than 60 undergraduate degree programs in more than 200 areas of study in six colleges. The university also has an Honors College and a Graduate School. Wichita State University is classified as a research university with high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Wichita State University is home to the National Institute for Aviation Research, the largest university-affiliated aviation research center in the world.

Wichita State University was founded in 1865 as a private Congregationalist university. The university was originally located in downtown Wichita, but it moved to its current location on the west side of the city in 1886. The university was renamed Fairmount College in 1898 and became a municipal university in 1909. In 1964, the university merged with Kansas Wesleyan University and became known as Wichita State University.

Wichita State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university's athletic teams, known as the Shockers, compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Missouri Valley Conference. Wichita State University's mascot is WuShock, a giant, green, furry creature.
