Whitman College is a private liberal arts college located in Walla Walla, Washington. Whitman was founded in 1859 as a seminary for the Methodist Episcopal Church and became a four-year liberal arts college in 1882. Whitman is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the Council of Independent Colleges. The campus is located on the original site of Fort Walla Walla, and the college now owns and operates a working wheat farm on the Palouse.
