Vassar College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college in the town of Poughkeepsie, New York. Founded in 1861 by Matthew Vassar, it was the first degree-granting institution of higher education for women in the United States. It became coeducational in 1969. The college offers B.A. degrees in more than 50 majors and features a flexible curriculum designed to promote intellectual exploration, creativity, and collaboration.

Vassar is consistently ranked as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country. The college has an endowment of over $1 billion and an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The student-faculty ratio is 10:1 and the average class size is 19.

Vassar College was founded in 1861 as an all-women's school by Matthew Vassar, a brewer and philanthropist. He donated $408,000 and 35 acres (14 ha) of land to establish the school, which opened its doors to its first class of students in 1865. The college became coeducational in 1969.

Vassar is located in the town of Poughkeepsie, New York, about 70 miles (110 km) north of New York City. The campus comprises over 1,000 acres (400 ha) of land, including a 500-acre (200 ha) nature preserve. The college is home to 24 academic buildings, including Main Building, the second-oldest building on campus.

Vassar offers B.A. degrees in over 50 majors and features a flexible curriculum designed to promote intellectual exploration, creativity, and collaboration. The college also offers a number of joint degree programs with other institutions, including the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, the Bard College Conservatory of Music, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
