The University of North Georgia is a public university in the U.S. state of Georgia. UNG is a member institution of the University System of Georgia and is the state's sixth largest university. UNG's main campus is in Dahlonega, and other campuses are located in Cumming, Gainesville, and Oconee County. The university offers more than 140 programs of study leading to associate, bachelor's, master's, and specialist degrees. The university is the only public university in Georgia with an ROTC program.

The University of North Georgia was founded in 1873 as North Georgia Agricultural College, a college of the University System of Georgia. The school was created by an act of the Georgia General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Rufus B. Bullock. The school opened its doors in 1873 with 106 students and six faculty members. In 1878, the school was renamed North Georgia College and Agricultural Experiment Station. In 1913, the name was again changed, this time to North Georgia College and State University. The school became a part of the University System of Georgia in 1932. In 2013, the school was renamed the University of North Georgia.

The University of North Georgia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate, baccalaureate, master's, and specialist degrees.

The university's athletic teams compete in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and are members of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC). The school's mascot is the Nighthawk.
