The University of North Carolina at Asheville is a public liberal arts university in Asheville, North Carolina. UNC Asheville is the only designated liberal arts institution in the University of North Carolina system and the only public university in Western North Carolina. The university is also home to the National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center. UNC Asheville has an enrollment of 3,800 students, and offers over 30 undergraduate majors as well as graduate programs in Asheville.

UNC Asheville was founded in 1927 as Buncombe County Junior College, part of the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College system. In 1930, the college merged with the University of North Carolina system and became Asheville-Buncombe College. In 1957, the college moved to its current location on a hilltop overlooking downtown Asheville. The college became a four-year institution in 1963 and was renamed Asheville-Buncombe Technical Institute. In 1967, the college was renamed again, this time to Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College. In 1971, UNC Asheville was established as a separate four-year institution within the University of North Carolina system. The college moved to its current name in 1996.

UNC Asheville is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. The university is also a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.

UNC Asheville is home to the National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center, which is a research center that works on developing and applying environmental models. The center is also home to the Environmental Finance Center, which works on issues related to financing environmental protection and restoration projects.

UNC Asheville is located on a 185-acre campus in Asheville, North Carolina. The campus is adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is within walking distance of downtown Asheville. The campus features several green spaces, including a botanical garden, an organic farm, and an outdoor amphitheater.
