The University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university in Los Angeles, California. It is the flagship institution of the University of California system, and is considered one of the world's leading research universities. UCLA enrolls about 31,000 undergraduate and 13,000 graduate students, and has a faculty of about 2,700.

The university was established in 1882 as the southern branch of the University of California and achieved its current status in 1919. UCLA is organized into six undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools, and four professional health science schools. The undergraduate colleges are the College of Letters and Science, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of the Arts and Architecture, the School of Education and Information Studies, the School of Nursing, and the School of Theater, Film and Television.

UCLA's main campus is situated in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, just west of the city's downtown area. The campus spans 1200 acres and contains over 150 buildings. The university also operates several off-campus facilities, including the UCLA Marine Science Center in Long Beach, the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, and the UCLA Extension program.

UCLA is ranked as the 28th-best university in the world and the 3rd-best university in the United States by Times Higher Education. It is also ranked as the 16th-best university in the world and the 2nd-best university in the United States by the Academic Ranking of World Universities. UCLA is considered a "Public Ivy," meaning it is one of eight public universities in the United States that offer an Ivy League-caliber education.

UCLA's sports teams, the Bruins, compete in the Pac-12 Conference of the NCAA's Division I. The Bruins have won 126 national championships, more than any other university. UCLA students, staff, and alumni have won 251 Olympic medals, including 135 gold medals. The university has also produced a number of Nobel laureates, including 13 in Chemistry, 20 in Physics, and 14 in Physiology or Medicine.
