The University of California-Hastings College of Law is a public law school in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1878 as the first law school of the University of California system, UC Hastings is one of the oldest law schools in California and the western United States. The school is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. UC Hastings is also a member of the Order of the Coif, a national honor society for law school graduates.
The school offers a three-year J.D. program, as well as LL.M. and J.S.D. degrees for graduates of foreign law schools. The school also offers a number of joint degree programs with other schools at the University of California, including the UC Berkeley School of Law, the UC Davis School of Law, and the UC Irvine School of Law.
The school's faculty includes some of the nation's leading legal scholars, including Erwin Chemerinsky, Joan Williams, and Bill Lockyer. The school is also home to the Hastings Center for Public Law, which houses a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Gender & Sexuality Law, the Center for Race & Poverty Law, and the Center for State & Local Government Law.
UC Hastings is located in the Civic Center neighborhood of downtown San Francisco, near a number of state and federal courthouses. The school is adjacent to the California Supreme Court and the First District Court of Appeal.
