The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is a public research university in San Antonio, Texas. With over 32,000 students, it is the largest university in San Antonio and the eighth-largest in the state of Texas. It is a member of the University of Texas System.

The university was founded in 1969 as the San Antonio College of the University of Texas. It was renamed the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1971 and became a stand-alone institution in 1979 when it was separated from the UT System.

UTSA is a Hispanic-serving institution and is categorized as an R1 research university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. It is home to two major research institutes, the Cyber Security Hub and the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security.

The university offers over 140 undergraduate and graduate programs, including degrees in business, engineering, architecture, liberal arts, and sciences. It is also home to the UTSA Roadrunners athletics program, which competes in the NCAA Division I Conference USA.

The University of Texas at San Antonio was founded in 1969 as the San Antonio College of the University of Texas. The college was created in response to the growing need for higher education in the city of San Antonio.

The college initially consisted of two campuses, the Main Campus and the Downtown Campus. The Main Campus was located on the city's west side, while the Downtown Campus was located in the heart of the city's business district.

In 1971, the college was renamed the University of Texas at San Antonio. The new name reflected the university's status as a stand-alone institution within the UT System.

In 1979, UTSA was separated from the UT System and became an independent institution. The university began to experience rapid growth in the 1980s and 1990s, as the city of San Antonio and the surrounding region experienced a population boom.
