Texas Woman's University (TWU) is a public university in Denton, Texas. With over 15,000 students, it is the largest women's university in the United States. TWU offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in more than 50 areas of study. The university is one of only a handful of institutions in the nation with schools of health sciences, business, and the liberal arts.
TWU's origins date back to 1901, when the Texas Legislature created the Girls Industrial College to provide educational opportunities for women in the state. The college changed its name to the College of Industrial Arts in 1914 and began offering bachelor's degrees in 1929. In 1957, the college became a state university and was renamed Texas Woman's University.
TWU has always been committed to providing educational opportunities for women. In addition to its traditional undergraduate and graduate programs, the university offers online and distance education programs, as well as programs for working adults.
