Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) is a public university in Michigan that was founded in 1963. The university is located on 748 acres (304 ha) of land in Saginaw County's Kochville Township, approximately 10 miles (16 km) from downtown Saginaw. SVSU offers more than 100 programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. The university's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division II level as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

SVSU was established as Saginaw Valley College on June 28, 1963 by the Michigan Legislature. The college admitted its first class of students in 1965 and awarded its first degrees in 1968. The institution became Saginaw Valley State University on August 1, 1987.

SVSU is governed by a eight-member Board of Control appointed by the governor of Michigan. The university has a president, who is the chief executive officer, and a vice president for academic affairs, who is the chief academic officer.

The university enrolls more than 12,000 students from 43 states and 53 countries. The student body is 58% female and 42% male. SVSU's campus is home to students from a variety of racial and ethnic backgrounds, including African American, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and international students.

SVSU offers more than 100 programs of study at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. The most popular majors among undergraduates are business, management, and marketing; education; engineering; health professions and related programs; and social sciences.

The university's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division II level as members of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). SVSU sponsors 17 varsity sports teams, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, track and field, and volleyball. The university has won numerous conference and national championships, and its athletes have earned numerous individual honors.

SVSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university's nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and its engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
