SUNY Cortland is a public university located in Cortland, New York. It is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The university was founded in 1868 as the Cortland Normal School, a teacher training institution. In 1948, it became a state teachers college. In 1960, it was renamed the State University of New York at Cortland. In 1987, it attained university status and was renamed SUNY Cortland. The university is situated on a 200-acre (81-hectare) campus. It enrolls over 7,000 students. The university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines.
SUNY Cortland is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university is comprised of five schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Professional Studies, the Graduate School, and the Honors College.
