Rutgers University-Camden is a public research university in Camden, New Jersey. It is one of the three campuses of Rutgers University, and part of the Rutgers–Camden campus. It is the southernmost campus of the university.
Rutgers–Camden was established in 1926 as the South Jersey Law School, a private institution affiliated with Rutgers University. The law school merged with Rutgers in 1950, becoming the Rutgers–Camden Center of the Rutgers system. The campus expanded significantly in the 1960s and 1970s with the addition of new academic buildings and residence halls.
Rutgers–Camden offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from seven schools and colleges: the Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Law, Nursing, Social Work, and Graduate Studies. The campus has a student body of approximately 6,500 students.
Rutgers–Camden is classified as a research university with "high research activity" by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The university is a member of the Association of American Universities and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities. It is also a sea-grant university and a space-grant university.
Rutgers–Camden is home to several research centers and institutes, including the Center for the Arts and Humanities, the Center for Aquatic Biology and Ecology, the Camden Waterfront Heritage Center, and the Institute for Research on Women. The campus is also home to the Rutgers–Camden Chancellor's Office, the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development, and the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
