Rowan University is a public research university in Glassboro, New Jersey, United States, with a satellite campus in Camden, New Jersey. The school was founded in 1923 as Glassboro Normal School on a rural farm that donated land for the campus. The school became a teachers college in 1937 and was renamed Rowan College of New Jersey in 1992. Rowan University was formed in 1997 when the school was renamed again and granted university status.
The university is organized into seven colleges: the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, the William G. Rohrer College of Business, the College of Communication and Creative Arts, the College of Education, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Science and Mathematics, and the School of Health Professions. The school offers over 80 undergraduate majors and more than 60 graduate programs.
Rowan University is ranked among the top public universities in the Northeastern United States. The school is also ranked as a "Best Value" university by Kiplinger's Personal Finance and a "Best Northeastern College" by The Princeton Review.
Rowan University is located in Glassboro, New Jersey, about 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Philadelphia. The school's 1,600-acre (650 ha) campus is in a rural area of South Jersey. The campus is adjacent to the Rowan Boulevard commercial corridor and the Rowan College at Gloucester County campus.
The school's athletic teams are known as the Rowan Profs. The school is a member of the NCAA Division III and the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The school's men's and women's basketball teams have won a combined six conference championships and have made a combined seven NCAA Division III tournament appearances. The school's baseball team has won two conference championships and has made four NCAA Division III tournament appearances.
