Ouachita Baptist University (OBU) is a private, liberal arts university in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. The university was founded in 1886 as Ouachita Baptist College by a group of Baptist citizens who wanted to provide higher education opportunities for Arkansans. The school's name was changed to Ouachita Baptist University in 1965.
OBU offers more than 50 undergraduate majors, as well as master's and doctorate degrees. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.
OBU's campus is located on a 100-acre (40-hectare) site in Arkadelphia. The campus includes several historic buildings, as well as new facilities such as the M.L. Brown Chapel, the W.H. Sutton Library, and the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Business Building.
The university's sports teams, known as the Tigers, compete in the NCAA Division II Great American Conference. Ouachita Baptist University is also home to a number of student organizations, including the Ouachita Singers, the Tiger Marching Band, and the Student Government Association.
