Oklahoma State University-Main Campus (OSU) is a public land-grant university in Stillwater, Oklahoma, United States. OSU was founded in 1890 under the Morrill Act. Originally known as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College (Oklahoma A&M), it is the flagship institution of the Oklahoma State University System. Official enrollment for the fall 2010 semester system-wide was 35,073, with 23,459 students enrolled at OSU-Stillwater. OSU is classified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as a research university with high research activity. It is also ranked as one of the top 100 public universities in the country by the U.S. News & World Report.

The university's athletic teams, collectively known as the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Cowgirls, compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I as members of the Big 12 Conference. OSU's men's basketball team won the NCAA Division I championship in 1945 and 1946. The Cowboys are the only team in NCAA Division I history to win back-to-back national championships in basketball. Football teams have won the national championship six times: in 1916, 1917, 1933, 1945, 1946, and 1949. Oklahoma State University's track and field and cross country teams have also brought home NCAA titles in their respective sports.

The university has a long tradition of success in athletics. It is one of only six schools in the nation to win at least one NCAA team national championship in each of the last four decades, and one of only two schools to win national championships in football, men’s basketball, and baseball. In total, Oklahoma State University has won 51 NCAA team national championships, which is more than any other school in the state of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State University is also well-known for its success in academic programs. It is one of only six universities in the nation to be designated a land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant institution. The university offers more than 150 undergraduate majors and over 200 graduate and professional degrees. OSU is also home to the National Weather Center, which is a collaborative facility that brings together university research, state, federal, and private sector partners to improve understanding of the Earth’s atmosphere.
