New Jersey City University (NJCU) is a public university in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is one of the 30 schools that make up the State University of New Jersey (Rutgers) system. NJCU is also a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU).

The university was founded in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School. It became the New Jersey State Teachers College in 1937 and was renamed again in 1958 as New Jersey City College. The name was changed to its current form in 1996, when it attained university status.

NJCU is located on a 50-acre (20 ha) campus in the Journal Square section of Jersey City, just across the Hudson River from Lower Manhattan. The school also has a satellite campus in the nearby town of Englewood Cliffs.

The university offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its six schools and colleges. These include the School of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, the School of Nursing, the School of Public Affairs and Administration, and the Cotsakos College of Business.

NJCU is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It is also ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top tier regional universities in the North.
