Metropolitan State University is a public university in Minnesota that offers undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. The university is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. Metropolitan State University is the second-largest university in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The university is located on a 100-acre campus in the Saint Paul suburb of Falcon Heights. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

Metropolitan State University was founded in 1971 as Metropolitan State College. The college was created by the Minnesota Legislature to meet the needs of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The college was originally located in downtown Saint Paul. In 1975, the college moved to its current location in Falcon Heights. The college became a university in 1998.

Metropolitan State University offers more than 60 undergraduate programs and more than 20 graduate programs. The university has a student-to-faculty ratio of 17-to-1. The average class size is 20 students.

The university is home to the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the Metropolitan State University Library, and the Metropolitan State University Press. The university also operates a campus in Midway, which is home to the Metropolitan State University School of Law.
