Mansfield University of Pennsylvania is a public university in Mansfield, Pennsylvania. The university is one of fourteen schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). It is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The university offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines.
Mansfield University was founded in 1857 as Mansfield Classical and Scientific Institute. The school was renamed Mansfield Normal School in 1866, and began offering teacher training programs. In 1927, the school became Mansfield State Teachers College, and began offering bachelor's degrees in education. In 1960, the school was renamed Mansfield State College, and began offering degrees in a variety of disciplines. In 1983, the school became Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
The university is located in the borough of Mansfield, in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The university's campus is situated on 107 acres (43 ha) of land. The university's main building, North Hall, was built in 1857 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mansfield University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Undergraduate programs are offered in the liberal arts, business, education, and sciences. Graduate programs are offered in education and business. The university also offers a doctorate in educational leadership.
Mansfield University is a member of the NCAA Division II and competes in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). The university's athletic teams are known as the Mountaineers. The university's men's basketball team has won two NCAA Division II national championships, in 1979 and 1982.
