Lane College is a small, private, historically black college located in Jackson, Tennessee. The college is affiliated with the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Lane College was founded in 1882 by the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church in America, now known as the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The college is named after Bishop Isaac Lane, the first African American bishop of the CME Church. Lane College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor's degrees. The college offers over 30 majors and programs of study. Lane College is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Mid-South Conference (MSC). The Lane College Dragons field 12 varsity sports teams. The college is also home to the Lane College marching band, the Lane College concert choir, and the Lane College gospel choir.
