Lander University is a public university in Greenwood, South Carolina. The university is part of the South Carolina system of public colleges and universities. Lander offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Lander University was founded in 1872 as Williamston Female College. The school was renamed Lander College in 1889 in honor of Robert Lander, who donated land to the college. The college became a coeducational institution in 1900 and began offering graduate programs in 1925. The college was renamed Lander University in 1992.
Lander University enrolls approximately 3,000 students from across the United States and more than 40 countries. The university's campus covers more than 200 acres and includes several historic buildings. The university's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference.
