Hannibal-LaGrange University is a Christian university located in Hannibal, Missouri. The school was founded in 1858 by the Methodist Episcopal Church and is affiliated with the Missouri Baptist Convention. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including business, education, nursing, and theology.
HLGU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university was founded in 1858 by the Methodist Episcopal Church. The school's first president was Dr. William L. Harris, who served from 1858 to 1859. The school began with just five students and two faculty members.
In its early years, the university was located in a variety of locations in Hannibal, including a building on Broadway and a house on Hill Street. In 1866, the university moved to its current location on Broadway.
In 1874, the university was renamed Hannibal College. The name was changed to Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1929, and to Hannibal-LaGrange University in 1998.
