Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (FMLU) is a private, Catholic university in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Founded in 1923 by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, the university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. It has an enrollment of 1,600 students.
The university offers bachelor's degrees in nursing, business, education, and liberal arts, as well as a master's degree in business administration. The nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The business program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
FMLU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, competing in the Mississippi Valley Conference. The university fields teams in men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, and track and field.
The Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady were founded in France in 1856 by Blessed Mary of the Immaculate Conception. The order came to the United States in 1875 and established a mission in Baton Rouge in 1923. The mission eventually evolved into a university, which was chartered by the state of Louisiana in 1950.
Today, the university continues its Franciscan tradition of service to others. The university's motto is "Educating Hearts and Minds for Lives of Leadership and Service." The university is committed to providing a quality education that is accessible and affordable.
