Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) is a public, historically black university in Tallahassee, Florida. Founded in 1887, it is the oldest higher education institution in the state of Florida. The university is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also a land-grant and sea-grant university and a member of the State University System of Florida.

The university offers bachelor's degrees in over 50 disciplines and more than 60 master's, doctoral, and professional degrees. FAMU is categorized as a Doctoral/Research University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In 2019, FAMU was ranked as the nation's fifth best public historically black college or university by U.S. News & World Report.

FAMU was founded as the State Normal School for Colored Students in 1887. It was the first higher education institution in Florida designed for African-American students and began offering college-level coursework in 1892. The school was renamed the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes in 1909 and became a part of the State University System of Florida in 1953. In 1968, the school attained university status and became known as Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

The university is home to the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, which is a joint effort between FAMU and Florida State University. The college is the only one of its kind in the nation and offers students the opportunity to earn degrees from both universities.

FAMU is also home to the Marching 100, the university's world-renowned marching band. The band has performed at numerous high-profile events, including the Super Bowl, the Olympics, and presidential inauguration ceremonies.

The university has an enrollment of over 10,000 students, the majority of whom are African American. The campus covers 441 acres (178 hectares) and is located in Tallahassee, the state capital of Florida.
