Chicago State University (CSU) is a public university in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1867, it is the oldest public university in Chicago and the oldest university in Illinois. CSU is a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. It is the only predominantly African-American university in the Chicago area and one of the few in Illinois.

The university is located on the city's South Side, with its main campus stretching along Martin Luther King Drive from 33rd Street to 95th Street. It also has a satellite campus in the Chicago suburb of Riverdale. The university is organized into seven colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business, Education, Health Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work.

CSU offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines. Its most popular majors include business, education, psychology, and social work. The university is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for African and African-American Studies, the Center for Urban Research and Learning, and the Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy.

CSU has a long history of serving the Chicago community. It was the first university in Illinois to offer a four-year degree to African-American students and the first to offer a four-year degree in social work. The university also played a key role in the desegregation of the Chicago Public Schools in the 1970s.

Today, CSU is a vital part of the Chicago community. It is the largest provider of African-American teachers in the state of Illinois and one of the largest employers of African-Americans in the city of Chicago.
