Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is a private, non-profit, accredited institution located in the Willowbrook community of Los Angeles, California. CDU was founded in 1966 in response to the Watts Riots. The university is named for Dr. Charles R. Drew, an African American physician and surgeon who pioneered the field of blood banking and was the first medical director of the American Red Cross Blood Bank.

CDU is a component of the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, which also includes the Charles R. Drew Medical Education Programs and the Charles R. Drew University of Science and Technology. The university is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The university offers a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, a Master of Science (MS) in Physician Assistant Studies, a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Urban Health Policy and Management. The university also offers a number of certificate programs.

CDU is committed to serving the underserved and providing quality health care to the community. The university has a number of clinics and centers that provide care to the community, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Service Ambulatory Care Center, the Charles R. Drew Dental Clinic, the Charles R. Drew Optical Clinic, and the Charles R. Drew Sexual Health Clinic.

The university is also home to a number of research institutes, including the Institute for Biomedical Sciences, the Institute for Community and Global Health, the Institute for Nursing and Allied Health Research, and the Institute for Urban Health Policy and Management.

CDU is a diverse and vibrant community. The university has a student body that is representative of the Los Angeles community, with students from over 60 countries. The university is also home to a number of student organizations, including the Student Government Association, the Black Student Union, the Latino Student Association, the Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association, and the Student National Medical Association.
