California State University-East Bay (CSUEB) is a public university located in Hayward, California. The university is part of the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system and offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines.
CSUEB was founded in 1957 as Hayward State College, a state college offering two-year degrees. The college was renamed California State University-Hayward in 1974 when it began offering four-year degrees. The university's current name was adopted in 2005 when the CSU system consolidated its four campuses in the East Bay (Hayward, Concord, Oakland, and Piedmont) into a single institution.
Today, CSUEB enrolls over 14,000 students and offers over 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. The university is organized into five colleges: Business and Economics, Education and Allied Studies, Engineering and Computer Science, Health and Human Services, and Science.
CSUEB is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a member of the NCAA Division II. The university's athletic teams compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Notable alumni of CSUEB include former Oakland Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon, actor Danny Glover, and author Maxine Hong Kingston.
