California Arts University is a small, private, non-profit institution located in the heart of Los Angeles. The university is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Acting, Art, Fashion Design, and Film & Television. The university also offers a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting.

The university was founded in 1884 as the Los Angeles School of Art and Design. The school was originally located on Main Street in downtown Los Angeles and offered classes in drawing, painting, and sculpture. In the early 1900s, the school relocated to Hollywood Boulevard and changed its name to the Hollywood Art Institute.

The Hollywood Art Institute was one of the first art schools in the country to offer a comprehensive education in the arts. The school offered classes in all aspects of the arts, including acting, art history, set design, and wardrobe. The school also had a strong focus on the business side of the arts, and offered classes in marketing and management.

In the mid-1900s, the Hollywood Art Institute began to experience financial difficulties and was forced to close its doors. However, in the late 1960s, a group of investors purchased the school and reopened it as the California Arts University.
