Founded in 1858, Baker University is the oldest university in Kansas. The university is named after Osmon Cleander Baker, the first bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kansas. The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs through its four schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Education, and the School of Nursing.
Baker University was founded in 1858 by a group of Methodist ministers and laymen. The university was named after Osmon Cleander Baker, the first bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Kansas. The university's first president was John A. McCallum, who served from 1858 to 1859. The university's first campus was located in Baldwin City, Kansas. In 1863, the university moved to its current location in Baldwin City.

The School of Arts and Sciences offers bachelor's degrees in a variety of liberal arts and sciences disciplines.
