Whittier College is a private four-year liberal arts college in Whittier, California, United States. The college is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Whittier College is a member of the Associated Colleges of the South and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Founded in 1887 from a merger of two previous colleges, Whittier is one of the oldest colleges in Southern California. The campus is located in the historic uptown area of Whittier. The college is approximately 35 miles (56 km) southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Whittier College is one of the few remaining liberal arts colleges in California. The college is known for its diverse student body, with students coming from all over the world. The college offers a variety of majors and minors, and is one of the few colleges in the country to offer a major in Chicano Studies.

The college has a strong commitment to community service and social justice, and offers a variety of service-learning and volunteer opportunities for students. The college also has a strong athletics program, with a number of club and intercollegiate sports teams.

Whittier College was founded in 1887 from the merger of two earlier colleges, the Whittier Academy and the Nellie G. Wilson College. The college was named after John Greenleaf Whittier, a prominent Quaker poet and abolitionist.

The college began with just over a dozen faculty members and a few hundred students, but quickly grew in size and reputation. In the early years of the college, the campus was located in various locations around Whittier, including a former hotel and a high school. The college moved to its current location in the hills above uptown Whittier in 1912.

The college has undergone a number of changes in its 130-year history, but has always maintained its commitment to providing a quality education to its students. The college has an enrollment of about 1,700 students, and offers a variety of majors and minors.
