Western Oregon University (WOU) is a public university located in Monmouth, Oregon, United States. It was established in 1856 as Monmouth University, and became a state institution in 1882. WOU offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines, and is organized into five colleges: the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Health Professions, and the College of Nursing. The university's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

WOU was founded in 1856 as Monmouth University, a private institution affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal Church. The university was renamed Western Oregon State College in 1937, and became a state institution in 1955. In 1965, the school was renamed Western Oregon State College, and began offering graduate degrees. The school became Western Oregon University in 1997.

WOU offers over 80 undergraduate majors and 20 graduate programs. The university is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

The university's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Wolves have won conference championships in baseball, basketball, cross country, track and field, and volleyball.
