Western Michigan University (WMU) is a public research university in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. The university was established in 1903 by Dwight B. Waldo. Its enrollment, as of the Fall 2016 semester, was 23,252. WMU has one of the largest aviation programs in the United States, and is the site of the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies. The university's athletic teams compete in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and are known as the Western Michigan Broncos. They compete in the Mid-American Conference for most sports. WMU's body of living alumni comprises more than 94,000 people.

The university's aviation program is the largest in the country and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees. The program has been ranked as the best in the nation by both US News and World Report and the Princeton Review. The program is also a member of the Association of Flight Training Professionals.
