Wartburg College is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college in Waverly, Iowa, United States. It is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The college offers bachelor's degrees in a variety of majors and pre-professional programs. The student body totals about 1,500, representing more than 20 states and 30 countries. Wartburg College was founded in 1852 as German Evangelical Lutheran Seminary of the Iowa Synod. The first class consisted of eight students. In 1854, the seminary moved from Pella, Iowa to Waverly, Iowa. In 1864, the seminary was renamed Wartburg Seminary. In 1876, Wartburg Seminary became a college, and was renamed Wartburg College. In 1883, the college was granted a charter by the state of Iowa.

The college grew steadily in the early 20th century. In 1906, the college began offering a four-year program. In 1925, the college became coeducational. In 1935, the college began offering a master's degree in education. In 1962, the college began offering a master's degree in business administration. In 1975, the college began offering a doctor of education degree.

The college has a strong commitment to service. In 1887, the college founded a hospital in Waverly. In 1892, the college founded an orphanage in Waverly. In 1918, the college founded a home for the aged in Waverly. In 1954, the college founded a home for the mentally ill in Waverly. In 1968, the college founded a home for the physically handicapped in Waverly.
