Viterbo University is a private, co-educational, Catholic university located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Founded in 1890 by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, Viterbo University is the oldest continually operating women's college in Wisconsin and one of the oldest in the United States. The university enrolls approximately 2,200 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Viterbo University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The university's campus is located on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The 54-acre (220,000 m2) campus includes academic and administrative buildings, residence halls, a student center, a library, and a performing arts center. Viterbo University also owns and operates a retreat center and an outdoor education center.

Viterbo University offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including business, education, nursing, liberal arts, and the sciences. The university's School of Nursing is the largest in Wisconsin, and its graduate programs in business and education are among the largest in the state. Viterbo University is also home to the Wisconsin Institute for Peace and Justice, a center for research and education on issues of peace and justice.

Viterbo University's athletic teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MWC). The university fields teams in men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field, and women's softball and volleyball. Viterbo University is also home to a number of club sports teams, including men's and women's rugby and ultimate frisbee.
