The University of South Carolina Upstate is a public university located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States. It is one of four comprehensive universities in the University of South Carolina System. USC Upstate is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. The university offers more than 40 undergraduate degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences, business administration, nursing, and education, and graduate programs in business administration, nursing, and education.

USC Upstate is located on a 300-acre (1.2 km2) campus in the city of Spartanburg. The campus is situated in the northwest corner of the city, near the intersection of I-85 and I-26. The university is approximately an hour's drive from Charlotte, North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina.

The university was founded in 1967 as Spartanburg General College, a two-year institution serving the educational needs of the residents of Spartanburg and the surrounding counties. In 1974, the college was designated a four-year institution and renamed Spartanburg Methodist College. In 1992, the college was renamed the University of South Carolina Upstate.

The university enrolls approximately 6,000 students, representing 36 states and 42 countries. The student body is approximately 60% female and 40% male. The university's athletic teams, known as the Spartans, compete in the NCAA Division I. The university is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The university's main campus is situated on a 300-acre (1.2 km2) site in the northwest corner of Spartanburg, near the intersection of I-85 and I-26. The campus is within walking distance of downtown Spartanburg and its shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The campus is also within a short drive of several major cities, including Charlotte, North Carolina, and Greenville, South Carolina.

The university's main campus is comprised of over 50 buildings, including academic buildings, residence halls, dining facilities, and athletic facilities. The George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics is the largest academic building on campus. The college is home to the Smith Gallery, which features rotating exhibitions of contemporary art.

The university's athletic teams, known as the Spartans, compete in the NCAA Division I. The university is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Spartans field teams in men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. The university also has a cheerleading squad and a dance team. The Spartans compete in intercollegiate athletics as well as intramural and club sports.

The university offers a variety of student organizations and clubs, including fraternities and sororities, academic clubs and organizations, religious organizations, and cultural organizations. The university also has a student newspaper, The Spartanburg Herald-Journal, and a student-run radio station, WUSC-FM.

The University of South Carolina Upstate is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and master's degrees. The university is also accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
