The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) is a public research university in Greeley, Colorado. The university was founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado and has a student body of over 11,000 students. UNC offers over 100 undergraduate programs and 70 graduate programs, including doctorates, in eight colleges. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

UNC's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference. The football team plays its home games at Nottingham Field, and the men's and women's basketball teams play their home games at Bank of Colorado Arena. UNC's colors are black and gold, and the school mascot is the Bear.

The University of Northern Colorado was founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado. The school was created to educate teachers for the growing population of Colorado. The school's first class had just over 100 students.

In 1904, the school's name was changed to the Colorado State Teachers' College. The school began to offer more programs and by 1925, the school's name was changed again, this time to the Colorado State College of Education.

The school continued to grow throughout the years and in 1957, the Colorado State Legislature renamed the school to the Colorado State College of Education at Greeley. The name change was in recognition of the school's growth and development.

In 1970, the Colorado State Legislature again renamed the school, this time to the University of Northern Colorado. The name change reflected the school's expanded mission beyond just educating teachers.

Today, UNC is a comprehensive public research university with a student body of over 11,000 students. The university offers over 100 undergraduate programs and 70 graduate programs, including doctorates, in eight colleges.
