The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is a public research university in Kansas City, Missouri. UMKC is one of four universities in the University of Missouri System and one of only two research universities in the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU).

UMKC was founded in 1933 as the Kansas City-Western University of Missouri. It was originally a two-year institution and part of the University of Missouri System. In 1963, it became a four-year institution and was renamed the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

UMKC is classified as a Doctoral/Research University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. It is home to five academic colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, the Conservatory of Music and Dance, the School of Biological Sciences, and the School of Computing and Engineering.

The university offers over 100 undergraduate and over 60 graduate programs. Its most popular majors include business, nursing, biology, and psychology. UMKC is known for its strong health sciences programs and is home to the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Dentistry, and the School of Pharmacy.

UMKC is a member of the NCAA Division I and fields teams in 14 sports. The Kansas City Roos compete in the Summit League.

The university is located on a 500-acre campus in Kansas City's Volker neighborhood. The campus is home to several notable buildings, including the Administrative Center, the Atterbury Student Success Center, the Bloch School of Management, the Conservatory of Music and Dance, the Henry W. Bloch School of Management, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, the Miller Nichols Library, the Student Union, and the UMKC Health Sciences Building.
