The New School is a private research university in New York City. Founded in 1919 as the New School for Social Research, it is a non-profit institution with the mission of promoting academic freedom and intellectual inquiry. It is made up of seven schools: the School of Art and Design, the School of Performing Arts, the School of Liberal Arts, the School of Constructed Environments, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, the School of Drama, and the School of Public Engagement. The New School has a student body of over 10,000 and a faculty of over 1,000. Notable alumni and faculty include Nobel Laureates, Pulitzer Prize winners, and Academy Award winners.
