Founded in 1892, Strayer University is a private, for-profit university headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in business, accounting, information technology, education, health services, and public administration. As of 2019, the university has more than 70,000 students enrolled in its online and on-campus programs.
Strayer University was founded by Dr. S.J. Strayer, a former public school teacher and administrator, as a business college in Baltimore, Maryland. The university was originally named Strayer's Business College. In 1898, the college moved to Washington, D.C., and was renamed Strayer's Washington College. In 1969, the college was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In 1996, the college was renamed Strayer College, and in 1998, the college began offering graduate degrees. In 1999, the college was renamed Strayer University.
Strayer University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university's business programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. The university's education programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Strayer University offers associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees, as well as certificates, in business, accounting, information technology, education, health services, and public administration. The university also offers a Doctor of Business Administration degree.
