Strayer University was founded in 1892 as a business school in Baltimore, Maryland. The school was originally named Strayer's Business College. In 1898, the college was renamed Strayer's College and began offering courses in other subjects, such as shorthand and typing. In 1969, the college was renamed Strayer College and began offering associate's degrees. In 1976, the college began offering bachelor's degrees. In 1996, the college was renamed Strayer University. In 1998, the university began offering master's degrees.
