St. John's University is a private Catholic university in New York City. Founded by the Congregation of the Mission in 1870, the school was originally located in the Brooklyn borough of New York City. In 1957, the school was relocated to its current location in the Queens borough. St. John's is organized into six colleges and schools: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the Peter J. Tobin College of Business, the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the School of Law, and the St. John's College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions. The university also operates a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Catholic Studies, the Institute for Core Studies, and the Institute for Asian Studies.

St. John's University offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as professional degrees in law, pharmacy, and health sciences. The university is also home to a number of athletic teams, which compete at the NCAA Division I level. The St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team has won a number of championships, including the NCAA Division I championship in 1985.

St. John's University is accredited by a number of accrediting bodies, including the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the National Association of Schools of Music, and the American Bar Association.
