Smith College is a private, independent women's liberal arts college in Northampton, Massachusetts. It is the largest member of the Seven Sisters, a group of elite women's colleges in the Northeastern United States. Smith College was founded in 1871 with a bequest from Sophia Smith, a wealthy widow who left her entire estate to the institution. The school began admitting men in the 1970s, but remains women-only today.
