Founded in 1948, Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico-Ponce is a private, coeducational institution of higher learning located in the city of Ponce, on the southern coast of Puerto Rico. Affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church, the University is the only pontifical university in the Caribbean and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines through its five schools: Business Administration, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, and Sciences.

The University's campus is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Ponce and the Caribbean Sea. The campus is home to the University's main academic buildings, administrative offices, student residence halls, and athletic facilities. The University's library is one of the largest in Puerto Rico and houses a collection of over 500,000 volumes.
