Founded in 1876 as Altoona Business College, Pennsylvania State University–Penn State Altoona is a four-year, degree-granting institution and one of twenty-four campuses of The Pennsylvania State University. It is located in Altoona, Pennsylvania, United States, in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains about fifty miles east of Pittsburgh. The campus is situated on a bluff overlooking the Allegheny River.

The college offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a variety of continuing and professional education opportunities. The undergraduate programs are organized into five schools: the School of Business, the School of Engineering, the School of Health and Human Services, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Science. The graduate program offers master's degrees in business, engineering, and liberal arts, as well as a Doctor of Nursing Practice.

Penn State Altoona is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The School of Engineering is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The School of Health and Human Services is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education.

The campus is home to approximately 3,500 students, as well as a faculty and staff of more than 400. The student-to-faculty ratio is 16-to-1, and the average class size is twenty-five students.

In addition, the campus is home to a number of cultural and recreational facilities, including the Mishler Theatre, the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site.
