Northeastern State University is a public university in Oklahoma with its main campus in Tahlequah and additional campuses in Broken Arrow and Muskogee. It is the oldest and largest public university in the state of Oklahoma and is a member of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The university offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and over 60 graduate programs through its four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Public Administration, the College of Education, and the College of Health Sciences. NSU has an enrollment of over 9,000 students, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 18:1.

NSU was founded in 1845 as a Cherokee National Seminary and was the first higher education institution west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a Native American tribe. The university has a long history of serving the Cherokee Nation and other Native American tribes in the region. NSU was one of the first universities in the country to offer a degree in Native American Studies and continues to be a leader in Native American higher education.

NSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is also home to the NSU Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, which is one of the largest and most comprehensive natural history museums in the state.
