North Carolina A&T State University is a public, coeducational, research university located in Greensboro, North Carolina. The university is a member institution of the University of North Carolina system. Founded in 1891 as a land-grant college for African Americans, A&T is the largest historically black university in the United States by enrollment. The university's five campuses include the main campus in Greensboro, and agricultural research campuses in Kumasi, Ghana, and Raleigh, North Carolina.

A&T's programs of study include business, engineering, liberal arts, agriculture, education, and the sciences. The university is home to the Center for Energy Research and Technology, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the National Transportation Safety Center. A&T's athletics teams compete in Division I of the NCAA as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

The university was founded as the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race in 1891. It was first located in Raleigh, North Carolina before moving to its current location in Greensboro in 1893. The college was one of the first land-grant colleges for African Americans in the United States. The college was renamed the North Carolina College for Negroes in 1919, and became a part of the University of North Carolina system in 1972.

A&T enrolls over 12,000 students, including over 8,000 undergraduate students and over 4,000 graduate students. The university's student-to-faculty ratio is 17:1, and the average class size is 28 students. The university offers over 100 undergraduate majors and over 60 graduate programs.

A&T's campus covers over 200 acres and includes over 100 buildings. The campus is home to the Frederick E. Pitts Science Complex, the C. G. O'Kelly Library, the Student Union, the Alumni-Foundation Event Center, and the Aggie Stadium. The university also operates the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, which includes the Greensboro Coliseum, the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball stadium, and the Greensboro Swarm basketball arena.

A&T's athletics teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The university's football team has won 12 conference championships and has appeared in the NCAA Division I Football Championship four times. The university's men's basketball team has won four conference championships and has appeared in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament four times. The university's women's basketball team has won 11 conference championships and has appeared in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament 11 times.
