Neumann is affiliated with the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, who founded the school in 1965. The university offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as certificate and diploma programs.

Neumann University was founded in 1965 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. The university is located on 108 acres (44 ha) of land in Aston, Pennsylvania. The school was originally established as a two-year college for women, but began offering four-year degrees in 1974. Neumann became a coeducational institution in 1985.

The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as certificate and diploma programs. Neumann's academic programs are divided into five schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Economics, the School of Education, the School of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Neumann University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university's nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
