Maine College of Art is a small, private college located in the heart of Portland, Maine. Founded in 1882, MECA is one of the oldest art colleges in the United States. MECA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. The college offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in eleven majors: Animation, Art Education, Ceramics, Creative Writing, Drawing, Fashion Design, Film/Video, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interdisciplinary Fine Arts, and Photography. In addition to the BFA, MECA also offers a post-baccalaureate certificate in Fine Arts, a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Studies, and a low-residency MFA in Visual Studies.

Maine College of Art's campus is located in the heart of Portland's arts district. The college occupies five buildings, including the historic Porteous building, which houses the MECA library, galleries, and administrative offices. MECA also owns and operates the Maine College of Art Museum, which is located on Congress Street in Portland. The museum is free and open to the public.
