Kansas State University (K-State) is a public research university with its main campus in Manhattan, Kansas, United States. It is the state's land-grant university and a member of the Kansas Board of Regents. Kansas State University was founded in 1863 as a land-grant college under the Morrill Act. The university is classified as one of 115 research universities with very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

As of fall 2017, the university had 2,352 faculty members—1,172 tenure-track faculty members and 1,180 non-tenure track faculty members—and a student-to-faculty ratio of 18:1. The university's academic offerings are administered through ten colleges, including the College of Agriculture, the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Business Administration, the College of Education, the College of Engineering, the College of Human Ecology, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Graduate School.

K-State is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the Big 12 Conference, and the Universities Research Association (URA). It is the second-oldest public university in the state of Kansas and one of the nation's first land-grant colleges. The university offered its first degree in 1865. The school's athletic teams, the Wildcats, compete in the NCAA Division I men's basketball, baseball, and football. The school's men's cross country team has won 15 conference championships. K-State's track and field program has produced two Olympians and 59 conference champions.
