Founded in 1914, Johnson & Wales University is a private, nonprofit, accredited institution with four campuses located in Providence, Rhode Island; North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; and Charlotte, North Carolina. The university specializes in business, hospitality, culinary arts, and technology degrees and offers more than 130 associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees as well as doctoral programs.

Johnson & Wales University was founded by Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales as a business school for women. The school was originally located in downtown Providence and later moved to its current location on the East Side of Providence. The university has grown significantly since its founding, adding new campuses and programs.

The university’s College of Business offers associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees in business administration and accounting. The College of Hospitality Management offers degrees in hospitality management, culinary arts, and baking and pastry arts. The College of Technology offers degrees in computer science, engineering, and information technology. The College of Culinary Arts and the College of Hospitality Management operate the university’s two restaurants, which are open to the public.

The university’s athletic teams, the Wildcats, compete in the NCAA Division III. The university is a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Wildcats have won numerous conference and national championships in various sports.

Johnson & Wales University is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. The university’s business, hospitality, and culinary arts programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. The university’s engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
