Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) is the oldest and most prestigious institution of higher Jewish education in North America and the main seminary of the Reform movement. HUC-JIR's mission is to prepare the next generation of Jewish leaders and professionals to enrich the Jewish community and society at large.

HUC-JIR was founded in 1875 by Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rabbi Wise was a leading figure in the early days of the Reform movement in America and was instrumental in the creation of the Union for American Hebrew Congregations (now the Union for Reform Judaism). HUC-JIR has since grown to include campuses in New York, Los Angeles, and Jerusalem.

The College-Institute offers a wide range of academic programs, from undergraduate and graduate degrees to rabbinical and cantorial studies. HUC-JIR also provides professional development opportunities for Jewish educators, communal workers, and clergy through its School of Sacred Music, Rhea Hirsch School of Education, and Jacob Rader Marcus Center of the American Jewish Archives.

In addition to its academic programs, HUC-JIR is also home to a number of research institutes and centers, including the Kalsman Institute on Judaism and Health, the Center for Jewish Ethics, and the Center for the Study of Conversion and Interfaith Families. HUC-JIR's faculty are leaders in their fields, and the College-Institute's alumni can be found in leadership positions across the Jewish community and beyond.
